The Holiday Countdown Begins

Blog post #316 of 365

By countdown I don't mean I am one of those people who count the days to a specific holiday I am just one who loves this season. (Luckily I have several friends who do!)

A few of my neighbors have puked Halloween up on their yards.

A few days ago my son and I went to Universal Studios and they have begun placing bodies all about in preparation for their Halloween festivities. All of the major theme parks are advertising for their big Halloween antics.

WalMart is filled with Halloween and Christmas decorations.

My favorite part is knowing I will be spending quality family time with people I love over the next few months!

Ah I love the holidays!

Birthday Woes

Blog post #315 of 365

My grandson's birthday is coming up.

Last year he got a Disneyland pass. It expires before his birthday. I want to go to Disneyland one more time before it expires on his birthday. I don't think it is going to happen and I am bummed.

My sons both have kids and they like to play the you didn't come to my party game. I don't want to play along. They put me in the middle. Maybe we'll bypass that crap but probably not. Wish me luck!

MRI and Other Tests

Blog post #314 of 365

Medical testing has come a long way. When I was a kid it was blood and x-ray.

When I had my kids we had to drink a ton of water to get the uterus to tip enough to see the baby and their growth.

When I was having gall bladder attacks all last year they did dozens of sonograms. Not one said my gall bladder was bad. Those tests were wrong. The labs post surgery proved them wrong.

When my daughter in law was expecting my grandson she invited me to go to a sonogram appointment. I saw my grandson move around. He waved. That test was cool.

MRI's are amazing. They let you look inside the body in a way an x-ray never could.

Today they found the infection in my moms foot is inside her bone. Not a good thing but the most amazing testing told us everything the doctors needed to know to decide a plan of action.

Next month I have a CT of my head. They will be able to give me more insight into my allergies. I'm not sure how that will work but it migh just give me answers.

Universal Studios

Blog post #313 of 365

My son loves me. Today we went to Universal Studios. We have season passes and I plan to really enjoy the few months we have left.

Universal is my second favorite theme park in southern California. Disney first and Sea World a close third.

I have been going to Universal since I was very young. Like early teens young. They were just a back lot tour back then with I think a special effects show. Or maybe that came later. All I remember was watching the magic that is movie and TV making.

This time they were getting ready for their Halloween visitors. From what I saw I'm glad my passes are not valid through the frightful season. Dead bodies everywhere and apparently a bunch a walking. My niece went last year and I asked a ton of questions to every driver we were around.

I've been a few time this year and to be honest each time the back lot tour is different. Each time we see our favorite stuff and get in different shows each visit. This time we watched the special effects and the animal show. First time this year for both. When I first moved back to California with my kids we got season passes and every time we stopped for the animal show. I miss the orangutan. They had a tiny fox instead. So not the same...

I'll keep going because I love it!

No Logic

Blog post #312 of 365

It seems to me you would think about these types of things before installing them.

Hag a handbag from that hook and any jarring, oh say someone opening a different stall door and your door is unlocked. This one is on a handicapped stall which means the door is not near the toilet which means you are likely to be in a bad place.

Hospitals

Blog post #309 of 365

I have been in and around hospitals my entire life.

My uncle was in a nursing home and my mom and I would visit. He had Down Syndrome and wasn't able to live on his own after my grandmother died. He was amazing since he was never expected to live. My grandmother taught him to swallow then to dress, feed himself and even a few words. Sadly that ended when he entered the hospital.

I have faced many surgeries and test through the years spending lots of time in hospitals.

Two of my sons and one of my daughters spent a a bit of time in hospitals. My daughter in the NICU at birth. My youngest son having surgery at six months and his older brother in and out for several years with breathing issues and asthma. I am grateful for the care they received.

My grandmother on my father's side and my father both passed away in hospitals. One very old and one not nearly old enough or maybe I was just too young.

My dad. The man who showed me what a dad is really like died in a nursing home. I am grateful my mom married him.

My children and grandchildren were all born in hospitals when I was there or nearly there. Such wonderful humans, every one.

Today my Mom was admitted into the hospital yet again. She had diabetes and an infection in her foot. She thinks she'll be home tomorrow. I think it will be a week or two. We shall see.

I have been to many hospitals through the years. For good reasons and not so good reasons. They freak me out but I'm glad they are there.

Thanks to every doctor and nurse who have cared for our family through the years.

I Hate TV Seasons

Blog post #308 of 365

I hate television seasons. When I was a kid it seemed seasons made sense. I never remember summer seasons and the fall and spring went on for a time before reruns began. I was a kid I may have been to young to remember perfectly.

What I do know is they don't give us time to find all the new shows. In a week or two new shows can be dead. Shows cost a fortune to make. They are purchased. I feel like if they are going to take the gamble they should let it ride a bit.

I hate being told something is a hit! Or much anticipated. Or critically acclaimed. Really not cool.

The season of teasers has begun. The summer season is coming to a close.

I hope this Fall they let me fall and love and then they let me stay in love. Give your new shows a chance. Give us a chance. Also quit putting all of the good shows against each other. That would help... Just a thought.

Do You Ever Wonder?

Blog post #307 of 365

Do you ever wonder what it would be like to do or be someone or something else?

I do.

I've decided it is fun to wonder but I'm glad I'm me.

Love and the Honeymooners

Blog post #306 of 365

Love hurts... No it doesn't.

Break ups hurt but love, real love, doesn't hurt.

The other day my niece came to visit. She is a freshman in college. She was talking about her parents the way I have for over two decades. She said, "They were totally flirting with each other." Well I can attest that they do. They are honeymooners all these years later. They take time for each other, they support each other, they date, the make out, they play together, they work together and much much more.

I know many people who have spent decades together. They have loved and probably believe they have the deep and forever love my brother shares with his wife. I hope they did. I hope they do but I not sure many people get to experience that kind of deep and connected love of my brother and his honeymoon wife.

Charter Cable Company VS Us

Blog #305 of 364

We have had Charter cable. In 2009 we added cable internet and phone. That is when the trouble began.

So I called. They replaced the cable from the pole to the house and told me we are the end of the line. Apparently our signal strength was low.

In 2010 it got worse. So I called a few more times.

In 2011 it got crazy bad. It kept messing up so I kept calling... and calling.

We have had dozens of guys come check it out, they changed fittings, move stuff around, added an amplifier, remove an amplifier, switched equipment, added an amplifier again, replaced the cable from the pole to the house three more times (the third time with a larger gauge wire,) replaced all under the house cable, and more. My neighbor next door was a sweetheart letting them access her backyard to climb the pole time and time again.

When it comes to the phone sometimes you can't call in. Or it gives a busy signal when we have call waiting and even when nobody is using the phone. Sometimes we have no dial tone.

Our internet has signal strength issues. It varies minute to minute at times. Sometimes we have a signal so low we have not net!

Our TV has tiling and sound issues. At times so bad you can't watch a program. I've captured some of the tiling.

They have claimed to have fixed it over and over...

The worst part is these commercials keep coming on claiming they have the best network and great prices...

It is just insulting.

I Wonder If It Works

Blog post #304 of 365

I watched this video:

http://littlewhitelion.com/secret-to-odorless-pooping-in-public-39507/

For Poo-Pourri and I just wonder if it works. This isn't an ad obviously but just a question in my head. I mean it could change the world if it works.

Imagine walking into a nursing home or grandparents house without the musty old poop smell old folks tend to put out there. Or being able to poop in public without the looks that accompany the smell.

Honestly folks if you think your poop doesn't stink then you are the only one cause we all know better.

Filling The Day With People I Love

Blog post #303 of 365

Yesterday, I went to see a friend off for a two year mission to Panama. He actually leaves for Mexico City This morning to learn some basics and brush up on his Spanish. He probably knows a bunch of Spanish still since he was in an immersion school for his Elementary school years.

Anyhow he lives not too far from my grandchildren so I went to visit.

My grandkids range in age from almost 5 to two 1 year olds!

The oldest is going through the lets make a face stage.

The second oldest is full of energy and ideas. He is one smart cookie!
We built with blocks.

And played with cars.

Apparently he likes to hide too...
Lots of back of the head shots.

If I'm fast enough I catch his face in one!

Playing is hard work.

My granddaughter slept the whole time I was there so I asked her daddy to take a few pictures of her sleeping.

He woke her up.

I stayed another hour...

She is beautiful.

Then I went to visit my youngest grandchild.
He is a very smart kid who likes gifts too.

I was well fed, well entertained and feel well loved.
