More On Rain

Blog post #458 of 365

It rained today. I mean really rained. The wind blew and the waterworks fell from the sky. All morning it was beautiful then cleared up. I went out to run a few errands. It began to sprinkle. I went five places and even walking through a very large parking lot barely got wet. Then on my last stop it came down in sheets! I mean buckets of rain. I got soaked. I loved it. I was able to go to all of the places I needed to go without much hassle and didn't get uncomfortable until after I returned home.

The one thing I discovered it rain helps my allergies. It cleans the smells that irritate out or the air! What a secondary blessing.

We need a lot more rain. I hope and pray it comes because drought it awful. It gives the water companies a reason to raise the rates that they never have to bring down again. Drought means fire season will be bad. We don't need to burn again and if we do we need a way to safely douse it!

Annoyed Today

Blog post #457 of 365

Today I ham crushed by things out of my control. Things like death, loss, red tape, hoops to jump through and just plain stupid stuff.

May tomorrow bring the rain we need and relief from the stuff that annoyed me all day today.

Rain

Blog post #456

They are talking about some heavy rain coming in. I hope they are right. We need rain. I love rain.

It rained this morning for half a minute. Okay maybe three minutes but it didn't even measure in the rain gauges. Yes I have rain gauges. I am a total geeky nerd girl.

Another Clever Ad

Blog post #453 of 365

This ad is the where creativity in advertising really shines. I see the product, remember it and love it.
 That is a Toyota truck...

All inspired by the kid jumping out of the tree.
Brilliant!

Olympic Based Ads

Blog post #452 of 365

There have been a ton of Olympic based ads. Here are a few...
Like athletes really eat McDonald's. Maybe once here and there but official sponsors?

That one was interesting.
But I love this one.

Good Job United. Well rounded, well represented.

Behind every big moment, there are lots of little ones... Precious. Not planning to invest but whatever.

 This one is so creative.

There were tons of them but I only shared a few...

Advertising

Blog post #450 of 365

Advertising is fascinating to me. I wonder if the creators or the buyers really pay attention to what is being bought or sold sometimes. I wonder if they think about the morality of the message they send. I'm not the soapbox type but sometimes it bothers me to see ads that are a bad influence to kids. Like Carl's Jr. "Don't bother me, I'm eating." Sigh... I might be getting old.

When You Are A Parent, Love Can Be Enough

Blog post #449 of 365

Love can be enough when you are a parent.

My kids had rules. They didn't always follow them, but they knew when they didn't there were consequences.

My kids knew I loved them enough to ask where they were going when they were walking out the door. They knew I loved them enough to ask who they were going to be with and when they would be back. They knew I loved them enough to meet every friend and if they were going to spend time with their friend's parents I loved them enough to meet their parents too.

My kids had to work. They knew I loved them enough to expect their homework to be done and done well. They knew I loved them enough to help them when they needed it. They knew I loved them enough to read together. My kids knew I loved them enough to expect them to clean up after themselves. They know I love them enough to give them experiences they may not have really loved had they not tried them. They know I love them enough to force 'volunteer' work until they understood it could be fun and wasn't really work.

My kids Heard the word no. They knew I loved them enough to say no when the occasion called for it even if they didn't understand at the time. My kids knew I loved them enough to let them learn sometimes getting their way wasn't a good thing.

Sometimes teaching those things were harder on me than they were on them but every time was worth it!

As a parent I have learned it is sometimes hard. The second hardest thing for me to learn was to let my kids fail. But they needed to fail. They needed to learn from their mistakes, bad choices, poor planning, and inexperience. I'd have loved for them to never have had to experience any of those things but I needed to love them enough to experience these things.

The hardest thing for a parent ever is to lose a child or a greandchild.

Olympic Game I Wouldn't Do

Blog post #448 of 365

This just doesn't seem safe. Strap a gun on your back, then ski fast to a range, shoot then ski again.

Those are guns sticking up from their backs! I know gun safety. I get guns have a safety but just the idea of a malfunction mixed with a fall seems like too much for me to enjoy that sport.
However the women especially have style.
Still fun to watch, especially with a fast forward option. Skiing in fast motion is way fun to watch.

Family Olympics

Blog post #447 of 365

Yes the Olympics again. There are few events that I would never just want to try, ability aside. One is luge because sliding down the ice at breakneck speeds with just a miniature sorta sled is just freaking too much for me the only thing I can think of that looks scarier is the skeleton. Same concept as the luge only head first. Way not my thing.

Watching this year I saw several things that struck me. First America medal in luge and Erin Hamlin won it! Kinda big. Then the folks in skeleton racing seem to just put down a foot or run their hands down the side to slow down. They appear to have way more options than I first imagined. Still not willing to try sliding.

Later I was watching an interview with Noelle Pickus-Pace, a skeleton slider. Her family tours with her on the competition circuit.

This is Noelle.
 Her kids.

Her husband Janson Pace entertains the kids while mommy competes.

This is what mammy does!

Exchanging a little love along the way.

I love that her family is there. I've seen other family profiles as well. It warms my heart.

I still wouldn't try...

Note: She is retiring and won silver!

Family Visit

Blog post #446 of 365

Today was Danielle's birthday. She celebrated by going to the races (a first) and stopping by to visit my mom. (Her aunt through marriage.) See this is what family is for me. Blood isn't what makes family a family, love is. We just sat a talked and that made today special for us.

Happy birthday Danielle.

Olympics Obesession

Blog post #445 of 365

Really I am loving the Olympics.

I love how they show us the crazy sleds and how they work.

I love the close ups so I can see the equipment better.
I love the mechanics of the tricks.

I love watching stuff I know I'd never be able to do. (Honestly moguls look painfully hard on the body with all that bouncing and jarring.)

I love how frightening some of the sports are. Going so fast and so far in seconds...

I love the immense joy in moments like these.

And I love when you can see the history of the work that went into a gold and bronze metal.

I cheer for the athletes not just the ones from my country but for all of them who work so hard and show us what hard work looks like.
